I have a relative in Kharkiv, and he said that the army is drafting him.

Opinions?

EDIT: maybe it's just to encourage him. He isn't in the army yet, and it isn't being blasted on the news so yeah.

Probably they are gonna do a military crackdown on the separatists, and they want to have the reserves ready, in case russia intervenes.

1. Russia, in all its history, did not invade anyone.

Second border war between russia and lithuania (1500-1503)

In May 1500, Ivan III took advantage of a planned Polish and Hungarian campaign against the Ottoman Empire. While preoccupied with the Ottomans, Poland and Hungary would not provide assistance to Lithuania. The pretext was the alleged religious intolerance to Orthodoxs in the Lithuanian court. Helena was forbidden by her father Ivan III to convert to Catholicism and that provided numerous opportunities for Ivan III, as defender of all Orthodox, to interfere in Lithuanian affairs and rally Orthodox believers.
The Muscovites promptly overran Lithuanian fortresses in Bryansk, Vyazma,Dorogobuzh, Toropets, Putyvl. Local nobles, particularly the Vorotynskys, often joined the Muscovite cause

1. Russia, in all its history, did not invade anyone.
2. There are no "separatists", there are people, who are Ukrainians, were born there and are protesting against the illegitimate government.
3. U.K. based bloggers' opinion:

" I'm confused. A few weeks ago we were told in the West that people occupying government buildings in Ukraine was a very good thing. These people, we were told by our political leaders and elite media commentators, were 'pro-democracy protestors'.
The US government warned the Ukrainian authorities against using force against these 'pro-democracy protestors' even if, according to the pictures we saw, some of them were neo-Nazis who were throwing Molotov cocktails and other things at the police and smashing up statues and setting fire to buildings.
Now, just a few weeks later, we're told that people occupying government buildings in Ukraine are not'pro-democracy protestors' but 'terrorists' or 'militants'." - Neil Clark.

I haven't heard of any drafting in Ukraine yet. I know that for the last month they have trying to convince more people to join the military and have called in some of there reserve with... poor results. I figured this was the reason they have hired outside military forces to use instead since using ukrainian troops on ukrainian civilians... isn't a good idea in the first place. Unless they are trying to start a civil war. Would be very sad if they really are starting to draft means there goverment views war as inevitable. Hopefully the goverment will reverse course and talk with the people before even more are shot dead.
Agreed.

I would understand it too.. Just like in the American-Vietnam war young men got drafted into the Army, not by there choice either.. When you are 18 in the USA you must sign up for the draft.

To be fair to GN, the Soviet incursions in Afghanistan and Czechoslovakia were invitations by the 'legitimate governments' for assistance, and to be fair to the truth, other posters have legitimately challenged his claims.
In the case of the Winter War, he might reply 'That was the USSR' - and the USSR was the legal inheritor of prerevolutionary Russia, and Russia was the legal inheritor of the post-revolutionary USSR.

Finland was part of Russia for 100 years. It was normal and obvious to take it back, Russia built it and invested heavily there.

But do tell me more about nation of america and its relation to Hawaii.
Uk had Scotland for centuries. Scotland should never be a country. Austria had Croatia, Bosnia and all for 100s of years. They should be Austrian. Turkey had Serbia for years, give it back!

It was very short period of time when Finland and Poland separated from Russia (1917-1939), just 20 years. If crisis occur in USA and Texas secede, im sure USA would invade them and incorporate in union again.

Findland and poland where part of the russian empire, the russian empire ceased to exist during the revolution, and since the ussr wasn't the continuation of such empire, they are not entitle to claim its land.
