I've recently seen some stuff in the forums and heard from other players how AtWar is dead, now this isn't anything new as the game has apparently been dying since 2012 or something but I was wondering statistically is it actually dying? In the past Sun Tsu was able to give us some hope as he could tell us how statistically the game was actually growing but since he was lynched we don't hear anything about that area anymore. Also I'm meaning the game as a whole in general, for anyone wondering why Competitive is dying it's because most of you are ignorant, toxic and just overall cunts who axe anyone before they can even learn about your circlejerk area of this platform.

Dying? No. Stagnating? Yes. The game hasn't really had a large loss in players since the initial html5 plus the year following it. Unless amok and ivan come back with another update like the one where each player could only join games hosted by people 3 ranks above and 3 below them, like they did in the past I don't think there will actually be a drastic loss of players.

I didn't upvote because of that sentence. The problems posed by a few toxic tards is negligible compared to the real issues such as stale gameplay, a dwindling playerbase overall and bugs. Also lets be real. People like Trystane tend to inspire toxicity in even the most reasonable people. He'll meet negativity and drama wherever he goes. Lemo posted a comparison of average players online last month vs the same time in 2014. He alone and the admins have access to traffic analytics. We are down from over 400 to roughly 190. This year was particularly bad.

Though a decrease in traffic isn't generally a good thing, It doesn't necessarily mean we're losing players, which I consider a gaming "dying". Until I got premium I would visit atwar but never actually play the game because everyone always hosted the same thing over and over and there was nothing to do, so I contributed to the traffic but wasn't really an active player.

Toxicity on the public forums and in game chat is a main call for this game to a lot of those 190 people. Some people just can't take good bantz I guess, toxic behavior has been a hallmark of this community since it's inception. Anyhow: I agree that the gameplay is particularly stale, though it must be a hell of a lot worse for you folks that haven't shuffled being inactive like I have. Why is there no meta rotation in this game? Can only Amok edit the strategies? I've been working on rebalancing EU+ lately, but the map editor is still so broken that I can't make much ground. As a player base, what exactly can we do to help at this point? Or are we screwed?

Sure not necessarily but why even make that point here. Players like you existed in 2014 too. I would dare guess even more so. I resigned from the modteam because i've given up. Clovis was promoted almost a year ago and all we have to show for it is a mapmaker that still doesn't even work properly and a modteam which was almost torn apart. And no I'm not exaggerating with that claim. Most people don't know the half of it. After lemo posted the stats i decided to drop all pretenses of diplomacy and take a more forceful and proactive line against the admins to get them to make small changes that wouldnt take much time unrelated to the mapmaker. For example strat changes and getting ww1 back online. I was outright ignored. Not so much by ivan/amok who dont have much time for aw anyway but by clovis who has their ear and who could make such things happen. Why? Purely out of spite because amok undercut him and repromoted me. He's more interested in interfering in moderation and appeasing insufferable drama queens like hellraiser.
Rotating meta is gone. Only amok can edit the strategies and he has stopped entirely due to the dissenters. Clovis is actively ignoring requests for changes. I don't think we players can do much at this point. Mainly due to the flawed mapmaker and the bugs. Ever tried teaching new players? You've not only to teach them the game but also how to navigate a myriad of bugs and how to avoid them. It's all looking pretty bleak i got to say. I am not quite prepared to predict the game's death just yet though. It's always managed to keep ticking over somehow. I'm just gonna watch and see what happens.

I only brought this up saying it's hard to correlate traffic with active players, because it's active players that keep the game going. Then you have other stuff makes traffic far less viable source, like casual players who only logon once a day to do casual games and log off, what of them?(and yes we still have players that do that) They may not even have time to get on for their casual games and miss a few turns every now and again but they're still active players. So traffic isn't always an accurate measurement of the activity of the players themselves, moreso a measurement of how much people are visiting.

Nearly all competeetive clans are recuiting and willing to cw any clan. There are litterly more competetive clans who look after new players than actual players who look after competetive clans. If someone fails to cw he probably too picky or one of few who turned everyone against themselves. And regarding 3v3s - We all have tried to do them with low ranks and depsite all "give them a chance!" threads it just does'nt work because they are mostely too far behind and just spoil games and force us to remake.

Not claiming to know, but knowing clovis I don't think he would completely disregard requests as such. He also doesnt respond to my PMs until I see him in game, so he prolly just doesnt check them in the first place

Trying to understand the point of this message  As for the numbers, its not quite 3x, its more like 1/3. Player base as of 2014 was averaged at 330, while the average as of today is 210. You do the math (please do, im pretty certain 1/3 is not right :S) Regardless, we've lost about 120 players over 4 years. Not great numbers by any means, no matter which way u look at it. But it aint as terrible as you're tryna paint it. All atwar needs is some IP marketing. Simple tech that every major institution out there uses, inexpensive, not sure why we dont employ... Edit: Fact-check: 360/190 = its down 1.89%

Not sure why, but I feel the strong urge to ramble here and share my thoughts on this issue. You know, not trying to sound like a faggot here, but I've been around this game longer than most everyone else at this point here for reasons I just cannot fathom, and in those eight years now this eventuality of 'AtWar is dying/dead' always is the focal point of the game. Whether this is a reflection of the dev's incompetence, our lack in having a strong community, or a lack in marketing does not matter in the slightest. What matters in the end is that we all continuously return to this game when there are far better games to be playing, not to mention other more productive things to be doing with our lives. I believe at this point however this is no longer the case; After Mauzer's strike thread last year, it became apparent to me that this was how the game would always be until eventually the Suslins stop paying the server costs and we're all left in the dark. It doesn't matter that we lost 190 players in four years, what matters is that we never topped 500 regulars at any point in this game's history. That's where the dev incompetence comes in: Amok and Ivan have both admitted to not being game designers at multiple points throughout this site's history, and it's admirable that this game is as functional as it is sometimes. If they had taken Sun Tsu's advice at this game's height in 2014 or so in hiring an entire team to further develop this game onto Steam and make it a full-fledged game, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Not to mention Sun Tsu's strong advocacy for better, more flexible marketing. But no- they canned him because he was trying to help players out, and one of them happened to offer him money. Going by that logic, perhaps Amok and Ivan should demote themselves for charging for a Premium yet the product they peddle is broken? I'm not sure why any of you put up with this. I go out of my way occasionally to dissuade my friends from spending money on this game for this very reason (ban me hard Amok, I love it). Clovis is trying his best, but why in the fuck anyone would think a twenty year-old dude without much time on his hands could fix a shitstorm like this game is anyone's guess. Doesn't help that Amok has to check* everything he does before it's even approved for the test server, which goes under-utilized might I add. Stop giving the dude flak; he's no Sun Tsu, IE PR-Manager supreme, but he's doing fairly well for the allowance his Estonian masters give him. Now, if what lao said is true (which I wager it is) than that's a whole other issue to grapple with.
This was utterly depressing to read man. Not sure why, it just felt horrifying to hear you say that. Nonetheless: If the admins have absolutely no intent to update this game anymore, I would like to petition the mods to do the right thing in terms of player actions. If we as players are helpless to this issue, then I guess it truly is time to sit back and watch it all burn. Occasionally in life, watching the fruits of your labor dry up and turn to dust is the most cathartic feeling you can achieve, I feel as though this game is no different. Of course however, the most valuable aspect of this game-- the people who play it-- can and will most likely all be associated with each other as most former online groups go. To what extent, I don't know. Is there a unified AtWar Discord server around anymore? I'm sure the one that Sid and Trystane were administrating is dead now, right?

He looked at the thread but we got no reply. Clearly you don't know clovis at all. Honestly i don't know what planet you're living on these days. And nice math.

I hoped ur resignation would cure you of the same disease that caused the irish potatoe famine, seems the salty potato lao is still here Anyways, I live on the plant of "university" where atwar matters little, and grades mean much. Every now and then i get passage aboard a space craft with light speed capabilities to fly back to earth, but im only allowed a small window of time before the peacekeepers force me back to the realm of university. I wish i lived in an alternate universe where grades didnt matter, and i had time to put into atwar
