OK well my last idea was pretty much torn to pieces on here. Next I turn to a time period that has been covered before, but not in much detail. PLEASE TELL ME THIS HASN'T BEEN DONE!

I'm taking about the age of colonization. Specifically, just before colonization. The idea is that the game starts with 20 European powers. Part of the map will be closed off. Most of the rest of the map will be covered with neutral countries to be colonised (eg. Americas, Most of Africa, maybe Indonesia and Australia).

There will be a coloniser unit, that has a boost on "colonies". It is much easier to get colonies with this unit. Colonisation ships will have huge range. Some countries for example Austria, will not be (normally) colonising, but will be trying to conquer Europe, this will be difficult however, as every European city will have 1 high defence "fortification" per reinforcement number. Some countries such as Portugal might have extra defence to defend themselves, if they are too weak from cities.

Countries such as Portugal or Spain might start off with advantages, such as more colonisers (more could be gained from events for countries such as UK who started colonising later.

I would set it as total annihilation to promote colonising, but I may need other measures in place such as ahistorically high incomes for some colonies in order to create a game where people bother to colonise, rather than people just staying in Europe.

This would lead to a "Create your own empire" kind of game.

Similarly to the last post, this would be difficult, but doesn't really need much expertise. Besides, I have Europa Universalis 4 to help out.

OK, now start to point out why this has been done a million times before and that nobody will play this

I made both, first is 19th Century and second is 18th. They are EXACTLY the premise you mentioned even with buffed neutrals and Austria and inland empires having a hard time colonizing.

Also worth mentioning, 19th has about 75 plays being new and all and 18th has 200+ and along with 13th Century is one of my most popular scenarios.

Ha you indirectly support my maps. But yeah OP I've been doing this entire premise in most of my maps. You can make your own version if you feel like you need to though.

The difference is that the world outside europe starts BLANK (v early start date). So anything can happen. 18th and 19th have america already colonized. Also mine would concentrate very heavily on colonisation compared to your general maps. It would have many more countries ready to colonise than yours.

If you give the future colonies a powerful unit then make that unit vulnerable to expensive colonists then it will work. Worked in my maps anyway.

I've read that before, keep repeating that nonsense, COD Campaign (especially Modern Warfare series) was amazing, emotional and unique. (That is, untill Battlefield started copying everything, lolol)

Ok well that is a typo... I would like to hear the reasons. Historical inaccuracy? Stategy imbalance? Bad borders? Too many countries?

Why?


There are many reasons... but the simplest way I can show my displeasure with what you have done so far is say.

"there are two east Finlands."

I know. That was done because independant Scotland would be steamrolled by England. Similar to Norway, it would be to to weak by itself.

I was talking about making it neutral and giving it many high defense units. But now that you bring it up:

Unique units could easily make Scotland equal to England in power. Scotland had many opportunities to make colonies and it could give England something to worry about since it is fairly secluded in Europe.

BTW It's not transportable. It would need to be this strong to have a chance. (Unless those bonus units interfere, how do they work and can I turn them off?) I haven't used any country specific units so far, so I'm reluctant.

That seems good if its not transportable. Country-specific units really add to the depth and immersion of a map. Not using them is a bad move imo.

I was going to allow the colonisation of India and Australia - But thinking about it that would be too long away - So I'm going to say you're right - unfortunately, it is too compressed. Well that was several hours of my life wasted

Make the map bigger and also, try to limit country divisions. A player should be able to wall a good amount of his cities.

So I was testing the new version and got this horrible pixilation (This is zoomed world map, no asia)



This is what the same zoom (Max game) looks like on editor. Not perfect but much better.



Why? Can I fix this?

I guess this means that I'm going to have to stop this - it's unplayable. Tried it again and it's the same. Going to have to decide whether to go back to old map, find a new one or stop the project. Unless there's a fix to this.

The pixelation is an automatic result of making the map played. If you have thick borders, make them thinner. Also, your borders suck, make them more realistic rather than just lines.

Also, your borders suck, make them more realistic rather than just lines.


It is difficult to do for regions of countries as there are no defined borders (Although Wales could be improved)
