I prefer Tom Reiss' "The Black Count", a book whose author I cannot remmebr called "1494: How a family fued in Medieval Spain divided the world in half". as for fiction, i am starting Ernest Hemingway's' "For whom the bell tolls"

Nineteen-Eighty Four by George Orwell, for a serious one. 1632 by Eric Flint, for a humorous one. On the Beach (can't remember author) for an interesting read. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is also pretty dark.

A book I find really interesting is 1984 by George Orwell. I've read the book four times and each time I learn something new from it.
