So I went on the main page today and saw the latest post. "Epic Custom Maps Announcement." I immediately began worrying about what the game will become. I love lots of the stuff on the Ideas and Suggestions forum, but I always laughed at everyone wanting custom maps. If we implement custom maps, I guarantee you two things: 50% of the games will be scenarios, and more than 75% will be crap. We're not a huge community, that doesn't leave many normal/good games left. I've always loved the ideas of things like "pop casualties," "cargo ships," and "more game options," and I'd much rather the normal game be fleshed out before we introduce a whole other realm. Let the game grow, in both number of players and amount of features, and then put in the custom maps for a, as Ivan put it, "new game from scratch." Just my two cents. If all of you vote yes and promise to make non-crap games, I'll withdraw my concerns. So what do you think?

Judging by the current quality of scenarios and posts in the suggestions forums most maps are going to be a cesspit.

Fucking great! I can't wait to create a C&C and Warcraft Map. But also a Space map would also be great for a Star Trek/Wars Game. Or also Medivial Wars in Europe.

Why not make scenarios mod-approved before they are allowed to be played? That way the new upload-image map thing is not abused. Just a suggestion.

All they would have to do is open the file, take a look to make sure the uploaded image is a map and nothing inappropriate, and then approve it. Nothing lengthy or time consuming, and the mods are here for a purpose...that purpose being to moderate the game. (Duh.) So...I do not see why it would be a problem.

It's actually a pretty decent idea to avoid the penis maps, if I & A even care about that sort of thing. I would support approval before posting and can't speak for the other mods but would be willing to review. Of course we wouldn't be QCing so I think this rings true still:

I quite like this idea, but it doesn't change the fact that EVERYONE will be playing scenarios, and most of them will be total unbalanced glitchy crap. A & I said it'll take a while to make it too, and even then, it'll be full of bugs. I personally want more features for normal games, more options, and more strats beforehand. We haven't even hit 100k players, either. I love the idea of custom maps, but I'd like a larger game and community to support it.

I'm all for it, but having more bureaucracy might hurt map testing. Maybe before being published they can be started only by the creator? Then publishing sends it to mods.

There should be a rule against posting pornographic, ultra graphic, and disturbing images. I completely agree that mods should screen the maps and that there should be a harsh penalty for those who break the rule - even first time offenders.

...why put more pressure on the Mods? If this update is what it seems to be, and if the admins advertise this update on cartography sites or Int. Prop. sites that maps could be made of...the population will shoot up again, like it did with Kongregate. I could be wrong, but we'll need a lot more mods if this is the truth. Hopefully it is, as Afterwind needs a good growth spurt. I believe maps should be reviewed by players, at the end of a game (or when they leave/surrender), a rating/report prompt should appear, asking you to rate the map _/5, or to report it for Mod/Admin review. Simple as that.

The custom maps should allow players the option of rating the map right after they lose, or the game ends.
